A native of Mobile, Alabama, Claiborne Ann Walsh has enjoyed creative writing for most of her life but began taking it more seriously about 15 years ago. She has studied under Dr. Sue Brannan Walker, Poet Laureate for the State of Alabama and has attended workshops with Dr. Walker, Billy Collins, former U.S. Poet Laureate and James Hoggard, former Poet Laureate of Texas, among others. She has performed in more than 20 states and held workshops in Alabama, California, and Texas. She has been published and has won numerous awards for her poetry and short stories. Claiborne is the past President of The Pensters Writing Group. Her purpose in writing poetry is to search for and find that special common bond that speaks to all people.
Claiborne is the youngest of 3 girls. As a child she loved train trips, thus began her love of travel and learning the customs of others. She has a questioning mind and an eye that is alert to details that others sometimes overlook. She has an ability to capture in words or on a canvas a feeling, a thought, or a moment that inspires her. She feels that this must be her lot in life so others will see things that might have otherwise been missed. So many things to question, to investigate, to turn upside down and downside up. To Claiborne it's all in the line, not just words but the balance of the whole; paintings, drawings or words. This is how she lives her life, good or bad, to Claiborne this is the challenge. Whether it is nursing an aged parent, raising a child alone, or grandparents raising a grandchild, she sees the heroism in people who care enough to rise to the challenge of each days new problems. |
